A young child may well be given a colourful “shapes ball” board game with which to play by his parents – one of these toys below with many differently cut holes and objects to match each. The idea is for the child to learn to push the right object through each hole and, of course, each will go only through one hole. The triangle won’t pass through a circular hole, nor a star shape through an oval hole and so on…
Initially toddlers (small children) have so much frustration in the early years, that they cannot get it right first time, and they try to force a shape through the wrong hole!
Naturally they get nowhere doing that. Eventually they do learn and then the game becomes fun to them – the whole game begins to ‘work in their favour’ for the child.
